Physics 2 – Brad Allen

Brad Allen has taught AP Physics in the Rochester, NY area since 1998.  He has participated in the AP Physics Reading since 2012, serving as a Reader, Table Leader, and Question Leader.  He has also written items for all four AP Physics Exams, and he is currently the Leader of the ETS AP Physics 2 Content Development Team, which creates and reviews items for the AP Physics Exams.  He has either written or reviewed approximately half of the questions on both the 2024 and 2025 AP Physics 2 Exams.

Overall, Brad has written hundreds of multiple-choice and free response questions that have appeared on the AP Physics Exams, in the AP Physics Course Description, and in AP Classroom, while also contributing to prominent AP Physics textbooks.  He has published several articles in The Physics Teacher, the leading physics education journal, and currently serves on the Editorial Board. Brad has also presented for several groups, including the AAPT and the New York State Master Teacher program.

Why attend an in-person APSI? Meaningful discussions and collaborations! Opportunities to do hands-on activities and laboratory experiments.

Descriptions of the images: The excitement builds as AP Physics Teachers stand while investigating standing wave and traveling wave patterns during an oscillating string experiment.  Graphing frequency versus harmonics from this experiment allows for the determination of the speed of the waves. Students who did this experiment performed well on an AP Physics Test question assessing understanding of the speed of traveling waves on a string.
